PLACEMATS WEAVING WORKSHOP

Learn the Hoi An craft of weaving mats using sedge ,a riverside plant traditionally harvested for mats and  handicraft making.

This immersive workshop introduces you to the traditional wood loom technique, a method that has been used by Vietnam artisans for centuries to create sleeping  mats for bed and relaxation spaces.

Under the expert guidance of craftsperson, you’ll discover the complete process from understanding the natural properties of sedge to mastering the fundamental weaving patterns. The workshop begins with an introduction to this remarkable riverside plant and its sustainable harvesting methods, followed by hands-on instruction in preparing the sedges for weaving. You’ll learn to harvest sedge from a sedge field and splitting it , how to set up and work with traditional wood looms, understanding how these simple yet effective tools have enabled generations of  craftspeople to create beautiful, durable mats.

This workshop offers more than just craft instruction – it’s an opportunity to connect with  traditional way of life and contribute to preserving these time-honored skills for future generations.

Class Size:

     Maximum of 10 participants to ensure plenty of personal support and guidance.
